Penny Gkeka uses weaving techniques to create compositions with bold colours, rich in textures and energy. With this piece, the successive layers of red thread are combined with different colours and materials, extending beyond the 2-dimensional borders of the frame and developing a dynamic relationship with their surroundings.

Penny Gkeka was born in Athens in 1975. She studied Painting in the Athens School of Fine Arts, under Rena Papaspyrou, from 1997 to 2002, and Printmaking.
She continued her studies in Printmaking at the Escuella de Bellas Artes de Granada in Spain, as part of the Erasmus programme, and obtained a postgraduate degree from the same school in 2007.
She taught Painting and Printmaking at the Florina Department of Fine and Applied Arts, University of Western Macedonia (2008-2010). Since 2018, she has been teaching at the 1st Painting Studio, Athens School of Fine Arts.
Her work stands out for the diversity of materials.
She has held 3 solo exhibitions and has participated in more than 60 group exhibitions in Greece and abroad.
Penny Gkeka’s work is featured in the publication WOMEN Greek Female Artists in the Alpha Bank Collection”.
