The exhibition “MYTH. Ancient and Contemporary Greek Art from the Alpha Bank Collections” is educational. It showcases themes related to the Greek civilisation, with a special approach. More specifically, it presents figures from Ancient Greek mythology, as they are represented on Ancient Greek coins and transferred on works of contemporary Greek art.
The educational nature of the exhibition
The main aim of the exhibition is to motivate and engage primary and high-school students. A special museum educator edited 2 different publications designed to appeal to children of different ages and interests.
Children learn more about Greek mythology
Students have a chance to:
- Learn about gods, heroes and mythical beings of Ancient Greek Mythology.
- Become acquainted with the way these figures were represented on ancient coins and works by modern Greek artists.
A long night at the museum
The Alpha Bank Cultural Centre in Nafplio participates in the European Night of Museums every May, throughout the duration of the exhibition.
The European Night of Museums is a global event by ICOM (International Council of Museums). One specific night every May, most museums in the world remain open until midnight.
Educational programmes
The exhibition is accompanied by the educational programme “With Ariadne’s thread the myth unravels...” The programme is aimed at primary and high-school students.
