Works of art and movies centring on urban life
The exhibition features pieces by 79 artists. Additionally, 21 movies are screened, in partnership with the Greek Film Archive Foundation.
The theme of the exhibition is urban life, through the eyes of artists and filmmakers. It showcases urbanisation and how people participate in or oppose this new norm.
The curator of the exhibition is Syrago Tsiara, Director of the National Gallery.
The Greek urban landscape is transforming
The starting point is the post-war period. At the time, urbanisation, coupled with internal and external migration, brought about decisive changes to the Greek society.
The urban landscape transformed gradually and the old neoclassical buildings gave way to faceless blocks of flats. This brought on dramatic changes to the scale, horizon and feeling of the city.
In addition, the infrastructure works made foot and vehicle traffic even denser. The momentum, day-to-day life and pace of the city went through a radical change.
The exhibition visitors may participate in guided tours and educational programmes or attend public events combining theory and various forms of artistic expression.
The exhibition catalogue will be published in Greek and English.
