Educational Programme Review, 2021-2022
For yet another year, the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection educational programmes on the history of coins in the form of museum kits travelled to schools in Greece and Greek schools abroad. The programmes have been approved by the Greek Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs and are offered free of charge, as all shipping costs are covered by Alpha Bank.
“Currency and Transactions. From Yesterday to Nowadays”
The “Currency and Transactions. From Yesterday to Nowadays” travelling museum kit is addressed to primary and high-school students. The programme’s main learning objective is for students to become familiar with the history of currency and the development of transactions in Greece from antiquity to the present, covering 6 historical periods: Greek Antiquity, Roman Period, Byzantine Era, Ottoman Period, Modern Greek State and present-day Greece.
During the 2021-2022 school year, the museum kit travelled to 11 schools in Greece. and the programme was attended by 983 students. In addition, it was hosted by schools abroad, such as the 3rd European School in Brussels, the Greek Primary and Secondary School in Brussels and the 9-year Greek-Albanian School "Omiros" in Himarë. The Greek School of Pretoria in South Africa also hosted the programme and organised a relevant event for the Hellenic Community.
With the approval of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport and Youth of Cyprus, and in partnership with the Marketing and Public Relations Department of Alpha Bank Cyprus Ltd, the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection educational museum kit also travelled to schools in Cyprus. A total of 2,938 students and 116 teachers from 20 schools in Cyprus participated in the educational programme.
“Nomos-Nomizo-Nomisma”
The “Nomos-Nomizo-Nomisma” travelling museum kit is addressed to primary school students aged 9-12. The programme’s main learning objective is for students to become familiar with the ancient currency, its iconography, its circulation and, of course, its use as a medium of exchange.
During the 2021-2022 school year, the museum kit travelled to 13 schools in Greece and the programme was attended by 611 students. In addition, it was hosted by schools abroad, such as the Greek Primary School in Naples, Italy, and the 9-year Greek-Albanian School "Omiros" in Korçë.
The educational programmes will continue in the 2022-2023 school year.
