Educational Programme Review, 2023-2024
The Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection museum kits, “Nomos-Nomizo-Nomisma” and “Currency and Transactions. From Yesterday to Nowadays”, continued to successfully travel to schools and cultural reference centres in Greece, Cyprus and abroad for another year running.
Posts about the experiences of the teachers and children that participated in programmes have been published on the official websites of the schools that hosted the 2 Numismatic Collection educational programmes in the form of a museum kit.
Impressive attendance
In total, 4,076 primary and secondary education students from 63 schools and cultural reference centres participated in the programmes.
Apart from major cities, the museum kits also travelled to schools in remote regions to offer children new cultural stimuli and learning opportunities.
To name just a few, the museum kits were hosted at:
- Junior High School of Sifnos (high school classes)
- Primary High School of Megalochori in Lesvos
- 2nd Primary School of Nafpaktos
- Primary School of Monemvasia
- 1st Primary School of Itea
- Junior High School of Fourfouras
- Primary School of Exarchos
The strong interest expressed by schools and cultural centres for yet another year reflects the success of the educational programmes.
A gift to the new generation
Through the 2 educational programmes, students:
- Explored the history of coins and transactions, from antiquity to the present day.
- Got to know the main means of transaction, which first appeared in Ancient Greece and changed the course of numismatic history globally.
- Become acquainted with modern transaction methods, as dictated by the advent of technology and the digital era.
- Came in contact with topics such as modern financial options and their effective management.
- Cultivated their social skills and team spirit through group activities, educational games and creative projects.
Instrumental contribution from the educational community
For yet another year, the educational community played a key role in achieving the educational programmes’ goals.
Specifically, the teachers:
- Used the available educational material, taking into account their students’ background knowledge and interests.
- Approached the educational programmes in an interdisciplinary manner and linked them with lessons and subject areas of the school curriculum, such as History, Ancient Greek language, Geography, and Art education.
- Applied experiential and student-centred teaching methods.
This way, they created an attractive learning environment, enriched the learning process, and maximised the educational benefits of the programmes in the form of a museum kit.
Looking ahead to the new school year
The Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection museum kits will continue to travel in the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. Our goal is to continue offering attractive learning experiences, so that primary and secondary education students in Greece and abroad get to learn about the evolution of transactions throughout the centuries and understand key financial literacy concepts.
