International Museum Day 2024 – Banknote Museum, Corfu
The Banknote Museum of Ionian Bank on Corfu is participating in the celebrations for the International Museum Day with the educational activity “Re-touching the history of coins”, on 18 and 19 May. This year’s event encompasses various topics:
- Embracing sustainable development
- Encouraging innovation
- Promoting equal access to education and lifelong learning opportunities
The initiative aims to get the public acquainted with the history and development of coins from antiquity to date, by touching selected exhibits. The exhibits were created specifically for this activity, with the aim of specific audiences, such as people with mobility, visual or intellectual disabilities, having access to them.
Through a specially designed tour, visitors:
- Get to know the history of ancient coins.
- Touch enlarged replicas of ancient coins.
- Become familiar with concepts such as the history and iconography of ancient coins.
In addition, specially designed workshops encompassing creative games, as well as ancient coin workshops, give visitors the chance to make coins using clay dies and modelling clay, according to the ancient technique.
Participation in the educational activities is upon application. Priority booking will apply.
