Alpha Bank celebrated the International Museum Day with the educational activity “Re-touching the history of coins”. The activity took place on 18 and 19 May 2024 at the Banknote Museum of Ionian Bank on Corfu.

More than 280 people attended the activity. The audience consisted of:

  • Students from primary and special schools of Corfu
  • Students from the music school for children with learning difficulties of the Philharmonic Society “Mantzaros”
  • Seniors from the Corfu Open Care Centres for the Elderly (KAPI)
  • Persons with disabilities from the Day Care Centre for Persons with Disabilities (KDIF) “Melissa”
  • Families with children

Additionally, on Sunday 19 May, Alpha Bank employees and their families were given a special tour.

Through a series of specially designed touch tours for children and specific audiences, such as people with visual, mobility, or intellectual disabilities, as well as workshops encompassing discovery games and creative activities, the audience had the chance to:

  • Get to know the history and evolution of coins from antiquity to nowadays.
  • Touch enlarged replicas of selected exhibits specially made for this activity.
  • Approach concepts such as the history and iconography of ancient coins in an experiential way.

The purpose of this year’s activity was, on the one hand, to get visitors acquainted with the history of coins through the centuries and raise their awareness regarding universal and equal access to culture. On the other hand, the activity aimed to highlight the important scientific and educational role that museums can have in modern society.
