Contents of the publication
The publication Greeks in Romania in the 19th Century includes the proceedings of the same-titled conference held at the Nicolae Iorga Institute of History in Bucharest on 3-4 October 2008. The conference was hosted by the Alpha Bank Historical Archives and sponsored by the J.F. Costopoulos Foundation.
The featured essays do not only present subjects explored by Greek and Romanian historiography. The relationships between Greek and Romanians and the impact of those relationships on the economic, social and cultural life in Romania of the 19th century are analysed at length. Therefore, the publication highlights unknown aspects of an important period for the Greek expat community.
It was edited by Gelina Harlaftis, professor at the Ionian University, and Dr Radu Pǎun, researcher of the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (Paris).
