A historical documentary
A short historical documentary was produced for the purposes of the exhibition, presenting the most important milestones in the long history of the bank, during the period 1924-1947. The narration is accompanied by rare items from the Alpha Bank Historical Archives.
A unique achievement
Banque de Crédit Commercial Hellénique was founded in 1924, a point in time that favoured banking operations. It managed to survive through a very difficult period.
The depression in 1929, WWII and hyperinflation did not affect the bank, which managed to survive owing to its conservative strategies, effective tactics and wise choices.
In 1947 Banque de Crédit Commercial Hellénique solidified its operations and changed its name to Commercial Credit Bank.
The protagonists
The publication includes the leading figures during this period in the operation of the bank. Among others, there was Dimitrios “Mimis” Costopoulos (1889-1936), who took the initiative of establishing Banque de Crédit Commercial Hellénique, and the first Chairman of the bank’s Board of Directors, Vasileios G. Akrivos.
Stavros I. Costopoulos, who was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors in 1944, was another important figure of the time, as was General Manager Spyros I. Costopoulos, who was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors in the following year (1945).
